On 23 August, a small, indoor music festival takes place at the Mooie Molen in Roeselare, Belgium. The event is called, “BAMFest: Belgium-America Music Festival” and features Blues, Jazz-Blues and Belpop underground music with a bit of a twist. That twist comes by way of one bassist performing with all the musical acts on the bill. I, Myke Rock, am that bassist. When I lived here in Belgium from early 2018 until mid 2020, I played bass guitar for and with most, (well, all except one), of these well-known Belgian musicians until the Covid pandemic forced closures of venues and cancellations of nearly 70 booked shows in Belgium and broader western Europe. By April 2020, I saw all of my shows cancelled for the entire year, beckoning my return to Columbus, Ohio USA.
Finally, in 2024, we are seeing a vital return, both here in Belgium and the USA, to widespread live music, essentially without restraint. Hereby, I am happy to present a lovely event, BAMFest. This Friday, 23 August, beginning at 20.30, with doors opening at 19.30, the evening includes Belpop underground artist and local celebrity Kloot Per W (The Employees, De Lama's, Polyphonic Size, Lavvi Ebbel, Per W/Pawlowski, and many others), blues/blues rock icon Marino Noppe, Jazz/Pop/Blues guitarist Jan de Bruijn, acoustic and electric blues and rock guitarist Jan Bruynooghe, renowned drummer Marcus Weymaere of the Guy Swinnen Band and The Voice Belgique – RTBF (performing twice), Rock/Pop/Blues guitarist Pancrase Vandelannoite, ultra-talented saxophonist Roy Andrews, and more.
This event is certainly an affordable alternative for the opening day of the recently cancelled W-Festival of the same date. At least that is what I've heard from more than a few folks.
